The #1 Lesson You Can Learn From Mark Cuban

History is not only a reflection of the past - but also a teacher of the future.

And today I want us to take a look back at Mark Cuban.

young Mark Cuban.

Whether you know him from his previous ownership of the Dallas Mavericks, or his appearances on Shark Tank - it's safe to say he is an admirable businessman.

I came across a post on X about him and Donald Trump partnering on TrumpRx (leveraging his Cost Plus Drugs company) - where they help create prescriptions affordable for all Americans. Just for context, the pharmaceutical industry is controlled by conglomerates and the space alone is cut-throat and brutal. Yet - Cuban is looking to revolutionize and give affordable medical prescriptions to everyone.

And while reading about this new partnership - in the back of my mind, I wondered -

How did Mark Cuban actually make his money? Like how did he become wealthy enough to even buy a team?

And during the research - I realized that his method for becoming wealthy will be the same key that can generate multiple billionaires next year.

Let me explain.

Like any college student that is graduating, and has no clue where to work - Mark Cuban became a salesperson, but after being fired shortly, he started his own consulting business.

Cuban founded MicroSolutions, which was a consulting company that helped other businesses use the new technology to the best of their ability. The consulting agency was founded in 1983 when there was a lack of technological knowledge and support. Whether it was installing software or providing ongoing support - businesses needed help (like in dire need of help).

And Mark was the help.

the true definition of “locked in”

Now before we jump ahead - it's important to know that Cuban is a sales guy...not a tech savant. So how tf was he able to help businesses with tech? Well since he was clueless, he taught himself, and if he could teach himself (a dummy) then he could literally teach anyone else.

He spent relentless hours teaching himself various networking systems, programming languages and spent days upon days reading computer manuals cover to cover.

Not only did he become educated on the product to the point where he could teach it to a 5-year-old, but he became educated enough to understand the gaps it could fill in struggling businesses.

Long story short, he grew the business and ended up exiting for 7 figures.

When I think about today and web3 - my mind goes immediately to Artificial Intelligence.

AI is currently at a place where most people do not understand it. Sure they can search things up and make funny pictures - but how can they use it to improve their business? Or help owners improve their business?

Well - that's the next billion dollar idea. If you can get good with AI and fully understand how it works - you have leverage. Enough leverage to show businesses how to become more efficient when implementing AI. You can essentially follow Cuban's game plan and create an AI consulting agency.

And before you think "nah not worth it, everyone knows how to use AI" - let me ask you a question.

Let's assume you are a media agency and want to recreate a successful ad from a competitor - what would you prompt AI?

Most likely you gave AI some basic statement/question.

But if you were a savant and had expertise with AI you would prompt the following -

Break down the structure of this post so that I can recreate it from scratch. Break down why it works, the psychological patterns involved, what context is needed from me, and anything else I would need to understand how to recreate it.

- Prompt taken from Dan Koe

The prompt above alone will give different answers and more value, but you see this is what businesses are missing - a person who actually knows how to gain value out of AI.

So what should you do? Here's how I would approach this -

  1. Focus on one form of AI - prompting, video generation, agents, or data aggregation

  2. Find local businesses in your neighborhood and spot holes in their business

  3. Frame your offering as value-based - "my services will help you increase business by X customers within 3 months due to the deployment of an automatic chat agent that will improve your outreach emails.”

As I said in the beginning - history is not only a reflection of the past - but also a teacher of the future. And history is teaching us that the next wave of the web is real and now is another opportunity to easily become a millionaire.
